    Vitamin D

    Genuinely valuable to correct if you are deficient, and one of the more commonly over-supplemented nutrients precisely because it is popular.     Iron

    This one deserves particular respect. Iron is difficult for the body to excrete, excess accumulates, and acute iron overdose is a leading cause of poisoning in young children — which is why iron-containing supplements carry warnings and belong out of reach. Adults should generally supplement iron only when a blood test shows they need it, not routinely.


    Vitamin B6

    The important exception to “water-soluble is forgiving.” Prolonged high-dose B6 is associated with peripheral neuropathy — nerve damage causing numbness or tingling in the hands and feet.     2. It is a ceiling, not a target. Nothing about the UL suggests that intakes approaching it are beneficial. It marks where risk begins to be a consideration, not where benefit peaks.

  • An immune formula during winter — more zinc, more vitamin C.
  • A “nerve support” complex — often heavy on B6.
